Betty L.
Compton
Oct 31, 1929 — Dec 3, 2022
Hamilton
Betty Lou (Simpson) Compton, born October 31, 1929, joined her husband Jim, her three children; Mike, Bubby, and Nancy on December 3, 2022, at the incredible age of 93. She lived a life full of love, experience, family, friendship, and fun! She had three incredible children; James Mobley a.k.a. Mike (Bobby), Charles Bernard a.k.a. Bubby (Patricia), and Nancy Jane (Dennis). Sharp, witty, loving, generous to a fault, and a life-long democrat. Betty Lou was the consummate grandmother a.k.a. Mama to her six grandchildren; Staci and Candice, Angela and Jeff, Carmen and Charles Owen, with fourteen great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren. She loved to sew, quilt, and in later life made heart jewelry boxes for young ladies.
Born in Hamburg, Iowa to Charles and Gladys Simpson, she grew up working on local farms with her siblings Rosemary, Chalmers, Wayne, Donna, Kay, Mac, Ruthie, William, Judy, and Kathy and graduated Hamburg High School in 1948. Married to James M. Compton a few years after he returned from World War II in February 1950, they traveled the country for his career with Howard Construction and settled in Hamilton, Missouri where all three children attended and graduated Penney High School.
She loved food and loved to cook for her family. She was always ecstatic about attending her Simpson Blowout family parties. She would have a drink on occasion with her grandchildren and loved cutting up with her sisters. She was always willing to open her home to extra children and was generous beyond measure. She had an amazing talent for crafts, food, and gardening which would rival any trained botanist.
Sharp to the end, she never missed the opportunity to get in on a good joke. Her sense of humor was incredible, her joy for life immeasurable, and the pride she had in her grandchildren was profound. Betty Lou never knew a stranger, never treated a person with anything less than deep respect and dignity, and was always taking care of people.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents Charles and Gladys Simpson, her brothers Spatsy, Bud, Tater, and Bill. She was also preceded in death by her three children; Mike, Bubby, and Nancy. She is survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, countless nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in her beloved Riverton, Iowa at the Riverton Hall December 18, 2022 from 11 a.m., until 3 p.m.
