Bill was born on August 28, 1943, in Fort Scott, KS, to Raymond Andrew and Vada Marie (Duggins) Upshaw.  He grew up in Uniontown, KS, and graduated from high school there.  Bill honorably served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War.  He worked 10 years for National Beef in Kansas City, KS, before his employment with General Motors where he worked in the stamping plant and retired after 33 years of service.

Preceding Bill in death were his parents, brother-Frederick, two sisters-Margaret Louise Cordray and Carolyn Louise Carr, and his son-Billy Ray Upshaw II.

On May 10, 1980, he married Margie Pippin in Kansas City, KS.  She survives of the home.
