George Prine Jewell, 82, died on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at his family home southwest of Hamilton with his loved ones by his side.

George was born December 1, 1929, at the home of his parents, C.O. and Vesta Prine Jewell. He was a lifelong resident of the Hamilton area and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1947. George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

In December 1952, George married Goldie Taylor of Cameron, Mo. Together they owned G&G Liquor in Hamilton from 1976 to 1986. George worked in the beef industry at several auction barns in the area and raised Polled Hereford cattle. George always preferred being outside on the farm to anything else he could be doing. He also designed and built furniture for his family and friends. George's true passion was horsemanship. In recent years he greatly enjoyed the friendships he shared while going on trail rides throughout the area.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dixie, Cova and Mota; and brother, Gail.

Survivors: Wife, Goldie Jewell, Cameron, Mo.; Son, Howard (Kristy) Jewell, Kidder, Mo.; Daughter, Cindy (Marc) Dishon, St. Joseph, Mo.; three granddaughters, Lacy (Kelly) Short, Masonville, Ia; Kielly Jewell, Columbia, Mo.; and Taylor Dishon, Kansas City, Mo.; great-granddaughter, Rylee Short, Masonville, Ia.; nephew, Charles Barnhart, Centennial, Co.; and a niece, Karla Barnhart, Orlando, Fl.

The body has been cremated. Celebration of Life Service: Friday, May 11, at 2 p.m., at George's home, 3897 NW State Rte. W, Hamilton, Mo. Inurnment will be at a later date at The Missouri Veteran's Cemetery, Higginsville.
