Obituary

Rebecca Lyn Munroe, 69, Hamilton, MO., passed away on December 15, 2024, in Liberty, MO.

Rebecca was born in St. Joseph, MO., to Chastain and Brenda (Baker) Schlorff.  Rebecca (Becky) was the youngest of five children.  Becky grew up in Cameron, MO., and was a 1973 graduate of Cameron High School.  Becky was a talented seamstress, she made many prom, homecoming, and bridesmaid dresses and costumes over the years.  She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing.  She was part of the Hamilton Theatre for many years and did many shows over the years.  She was a Christian and loved to sing in church.  Becky was a member of the Cameron Christian Church where she was baptized, the Hamilton Federated Church, Bethel Assembly of God in Chillicothe, and Riverside Church in St. Joseph.  She loved being part of the praise and worship team and sharing her talent to praise God.  She recorded a gospel CD to share her talent with others.  Becky was a lover of classic movies, musicals, and Broadway, her favorite was Phantom of the Opera, and she knew every word to every song.  She made the best homemade runzas, it was requested she make them at least once a year.  She loved to collect costume jewelry and had many beautiful pieces she loved to wear on a coat or jacket.

In 1992 she completed her LPN and began practicing nursing.  She became an RN in 1994 and spent many years working as a nurse.  She most enjoyed the years spent in hospice and home health because of the connections she had with her patients.  She retired from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services in 2010 after a battle with breast cancer.  After retirement she continued to craft and started a new hobby of jewelry making.  She made many beautiful pieces for friends and family.  Becky enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings.  She was Christ centered in all that she did.  Becky will be remembered for her beautiful smile, beautiful voice, and talented hands.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Robert Bowen.

Survivors include daughter Jennifer (Ryan) French, Independence, son Anthony Munroe, St. Joseph; granddaughter Alyssa Munroe and grandson Charles French; siblings Sharon (Kent) Kavanaugh, Kansas City; David (Cindy) Schlorff, Crescent, IA; Wendy Bowen, Hamilton; Ann (Wayne) Dorrel, Hamilton; 4 nephews-Chris, Brad, Bryan and Jason; 3 nieces-Kimberly, Leslie, and Shannon; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
