Winona Hope (Stretch) Payne, 85, rural Kidder, Missouri, passed away on November 13, 2016, at the Cameron Regional Medical Center, Cameron, Missouri. She lived in rural Kidder since 2000, moving there from Haysville, Kansas.

Winona was born on November 4, 1931, in rural Jamesport, Missouri, to Elmer D. and Dora S. Dryer Stretch. She was a 1950 graduate of the Gallatin, Missouri, High School. She worked as a receptionist and secretary for the Joe Wycoff Home Improvement Company for many years.

Winona was a member of the Hamilton Federated Church and the Treasurer of the Caldwell County Library Board. She was very active in getting the county library established and worked extremely hard attaining the bond issue which was passed to support it.

On August 14, 1955, she married Hermal E. Payne in Gilman City. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded by her parents; daughter-Juanita Payne; and two sisters-Helen Morrow and Peggy Stephens.

Survivors: Daughter-Sherry Weir-Tuggle (Jim), Elk Falls, Ks; Son-Ronald Payne, Haysville, Ks; 3 grandchildren-Eugene Weir (Alesia) Haysville, Ks; Steven Weir (Rachel), Wichita, Ks; and Staci Terry (John), Haysville, Ks; 2 great-grandsons-Jayden and Jaxson Weir; 4 sisters-Doris Stretch, Cameron, Mo.; Geraldine Sykes, Independence, Mo.; Bonnie Schmedding, Phoenix, Az.; and Vivian Jones (Junior), Lawson, Mo.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Cremation was entrusted to Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton, Mo.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment to also be held later at the Gilman City Masonic Cemetery, Gilman City, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Caldwell County Library in Kingston, Mo.
